How do you pronounce Gugger (as in Gugger Place)?
James James in a recent blog Fyansford Community Noticeboard posed this question.
Silly question! But then -
In my mind, deep behind my inner-ear, I imagined how some of my family, friends or acquaintances might say it…: My darling Mary (an Aussie/American mix), little-sister Pat (Lara), Julie (NT), Sr Cyril (Kolkata), Amy (Minneapolis), Kevin (Florida), Pam (Camperdown), Cath (Birmingham, UK), Ned (Wichita), Tim (Colorado, Mike (Oklahoma), Maria (New York) or even my great-grandparents who harked from Ireland and London (within the sound of Bow Bells).
Then, I thought of some of my favourite or not-so-favourite TV characters: DCI John Luther, a Darlek (Dr Who), Sarah Sanders (White House press secretary), any star from Fargo, DS Ray Miles (Whitechapel), Sir David Attenborough…
