Thursday, 17 October, was a memorable day. Though foundations had been laid, this was the day Dianne dropped by with a bundle of goodies
and a promise to consider further contributions re: life in Fyansford.

Dianne's mum, Janet Hovey, commissioned this painting of the old Fyansford Bridge back in 1984.

My mum always chose when to hang out her washing. So too dad, who owned a taxi (remember Pivot Radio Taxis) chose carefully when to wash his vehicle.

A lot of people were happy when the chimneys went down.

I have always enjoyed walking my dogs; currently Archie (a beaglier) and formally Magic (a cavalier).
Great fun!
Especially as I never know who I am going to meet.
And above all, it's always interesting chatting with and learning from my neighbours.

A neighbour might refer to someone who lives next door,

a few houses away, within your estate, your township...

Or, it might refer to a neighbouring state or even country.

After posting blogs re neighbours on Fyansford Explorations, FyansfordFyansford and Fyansford Facebook

I was delighted to read a response from Janine Dawn Eagle suggesting,

"We know all our neighbours for about 2 km around". I think that's g-r-e-a-t.

For me, I think it's beaut getting to know more about my neighbours within our district of Fyansford.

And, that's what this page is all about - both 'older' and 'younger' Fyansfordites (as described by Ashton Applewhite in her book "This Chair Rocks". .

To me a neighbour isn't someone who lives in my pocket, knows my every action or cares whether I'm rich, poor or whatever. It's not about religion or politics. It's more about a sense of caring, common humanity, getting-alongness and acceptance.

Above all I think it has to do with a healthy sense of community, e.g. sharing the fun of Halloween, Christmas, ...

It's also about providing our neighbours

with information, a helping hand,

sharing community knowledge

e.g. Fyansford Community Noticeboard

I highlighted the talents of one my amazing neighbours...

I think it's truly amazing what talented people live 'next door', just up the road, around the corner, in the next street.... One neighbour is a micro-biologist, one a gold prospector, one a keen off-roader...

One Fyansfordite I've come to know is just the most talented "creative" I've ever met. Totally unassuming - but oh so talented.

To me a creative photographer is one who does more than just take photos. It is what he or she does with them (in the editing process) that is so amazing. I see Michelle as a creative artist in the field of photography.

It had been suggested by many that I should meet with Max. Finally, the opportunity presented.
I'm so very thankful that I had the good fortune to shake this gentleman's hand. Fyansford.com is so much the richer for our times together and for the memories shared.

I taught for a short while at Fyansford primary school as a trainee teacher back in the early 'sixties. I cannot imagine how different it was then compared with the years Max spent as a pupil back in the mid- to late-1930s.

I look forward to sharing our discussions over the times to come. Recently, Max introduced me to his experiences with members of the light horse brigade stationed in Fyansford.

So many fascinating tidbits

I dropped by yesterday (11 Mar. 2022) for a few moments with Max; what was to be 30 minutes morphed into two hours as we plied each other with questions. In fact, this time it wasn't me that left homework for Max, but rather it was he who gave me some questions to be answered....

Max must have been a fine fisherman; he kept feeding me morsels I couldn't ignore...
